Celebrate Lemon Grove School District’s Teacher of the Year at ‘Salute’
April Major Among 42 Nominees to be Honored Sept. 7 During Live Television Event
SAN DIEGO – Lemon Grove School District’s own April Major is among the 42 teachers from around the region who will be honored Sept. 7 at the 29th annual Cox Presents: A Salute to Teachers at the historic Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego.
As a district Teacher of the Year, Major is a nominee for San Diego County Teacher of the Year. Five will be named the 2019-20 San Diego County Teachers of the Year during the live, televised program. They will go on to represent the region in the California Teacher of the Year program.
The San Diego County Teacher of the Year program provides a special opportunity to not only honor the tireless efforts of local teachers, but also to bring well-deserved recognition to the teaching profession as a whole. District nominees for the program are selected on the basis of student achievement, professional development and community involvement, teaching philosophy, knowledge of educational issues and trends, promotion and development of the teaching profession, accountability, and ability to serve as ambassadors of education.
The glamorous Academy Awards-style show begins at 7 p.m. and is open to all ages. Tickets are on sale now, and friends, family, and colleagues are encouraged to attend.
